I’ve been listening to The Anxiety Summit hosted by Trudy Scott. Here’s a recap on one of the talks.
Your Brain On Food: The Science Alchemy Of Yum For Alleviating Anxiety by Rebecca Katz.
List of Brain Food
- Lentils. Very easy to cook up and use. Packed full of wonderful things for brain health.
- Mint. Good to smell, good to eat and drink.
Dressing for veggies, salads, meat.
Mint, parsley, olive oil, lemon juice, salt.
- Pepita Seeds- Mini anti-depressants.
Pepita seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, maple syrup. Press into a pan, bake for 15 minutes.
- Cauliflower. Looks like a brain, must be good for our brain.
- Sardines. Prozac in a can.
Here is a very simple way to make food taste good.
- Fat – olive oil, avocado, grass fed butter, nuts
- Acid – lemon, lime, orange
- Sweet – maple syrup, honey, dates
- Salty – sea salt
Any recipe can be tweaked by adding some fat, acid, sweetener, or salt.

I love my lentils, pepitas, and mint. I don’t buy cauliflower because it’s too expensive, and comes from who knows where grown in a mix of chemicals and pesticides.
If all my mint seedlings grow this summer, I will be harvesting bushel baskets full of mint this fall. Yum, yum. I’m planting them in an area of my yard where they can take over and grow to their hearts content.
A couple of years ago, my sister started some pumpkins for me that give pepita seeds. How cool is that? I know she bought seeds again this year, so I hope she seeded them.
I love listening to talks where I can say, oh, I do that, oh, I eat that! It’s satisfying. It’s the acknowledgement I need that I am doing the right thing. I’m on the right path.
So if you struggle with depression or anxiety, go forth and start chowing down on some brain food.
